Wow, I can’t believe that another year is about to end. Time is flying by SO QUICKLY. I think about where I was this time last year and the one word that sticks out the most is thankfulness. Last year was A MESS and I am so thankful for the 180 that my life took. Looking back on last year, there were so many things in disarray and I just felt so lost in all aspects of life. Thankfully, I found my way and honestly, even though my life was a serious STRUGGLE, I am appreciative of those times because they molded me into who I am now AND they helped me appreciate the new blessings that have come my way.
Real quick, I’m just gonna toot my own horn for a sec and just share some of the things I have accomplished over the past year. Over the last 365 days I have accomplished so much! My research was published which is a first for me, I regained self-confidence in myself and my abilities, I reconnected with God, I spent SO MUCH time with family, I made new friends, I strengthened old friendships, I successfully finished 1/2 of my clinical rotations, and I also made some traction on figuring out my purpose.
With blogging, I finally figured out my goal and my direction and the feedback has been amazing. Between the tweets, DMs, comments, and emails, you all have been so supportive of my little online space. I may not post on Instagram everyday and sometimes I tweet too much about Beyonce, but finding my voice and sticking to it has been the most fruitful thing I have done on the blog. Thank you all for sticking with me over the course of 2017!
So each year I try to go into the new year with a theme and this year I am walking into 2018 with self-determination written across my forehead (not literally, but figuratively). Self-determination is defined as the process by which people control their own life. I almost chose consistency, but to be completely honest I was consistent last year… I was consistently late, consistently lazy, and consistently procrastinating. 2018 is the year of action for me. I finally made up my mind about what I want to do. I WILL be getting an MBA next year (#dualdegreeshawty #MDMBA #toomanylettersbehindmyname), I WILL make time for fitness to reach my goals, I WILL expand my pre-med mentorship/ consulting that I have been providing privately for others, and I WILL be starting a new business venture in early 2018 *throws confetti*
Not too long ago, a friend told me that I don’t share my talents with the world and they were right. In 2018 I am not holding back and I’m so excited to share this journey with you! Cheers to walking into 2018 with self-determination & confidence!
