Life Lately [8.20.17]

three thousand miles blog, life lately-1

Selfie on my way to the hospital this week!

LIFE LATELY: I mentioned this last week, but I’m currently dealing with two recent deaths in my family. Thankfully this week has been better than the last and I am in much better spirits. There’s only 3 weeks left until the end of my rotation and then I have a full weekend off! *insert praise hands here* I’m trying to decide where I want to do. My dad suggested Napa and one of my friends wants to visit Nashville or maybe New Orleans. I’ve done Vegas too many times to count so thats not an option. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m considering Catalina (an island off of Southern California), Temecula (perfect for vineyards and wine tasting but closer to LA than Napa), or possibly visiting one of my friends across the country or something. I have no idea what I want to do so please share your suggestions!

AROUND THE BLOG: So this week I shared a Whats On My iPhonemy favorite and most useful apps during my Internal Medicine rotation post where I featured . Also if you missed it, I also shared a day in the life of an MS3 on the wards the week before!

LA LIVING: I went on my first outdoor run in forever today. My neighborhood isn’t particularly scenic but it was nice to be outside, feel the warm summer breeze, and just run around the area. I’m hoping I can run about 3-4 times a week. My goal is 2-3 but if I can make it to 4, I’ll be so happy. A long long time ago, I used to run long distance for fun. My goal is to get back into it again. There’s something about a long outdoor run that’s so refreshing to me. When I run, especially outdoors, my mind goes elsewhere. I’m focused on my pacing, my breathing, and it’s really the perfect time for me to reflect and think. Truthfully, I’m not really sure why I stopped running in college but I’m happy that I’m prioritizing it now.

With all this new running, I need to get new running shoes. My Nike Free’s don’t have enough support for me (although I love how lightweight they are) and my Brooks have accumulated a lot of miles over the years and while I love them, they’re a bit bulky for my taste (although they have good support). I remember loving the Adidas Ultraboosts when I tried them on in store a few weeks ago, but I’m not sure if they’re worth the hefty price tag. I’ll let you know what I finally decide on and if I have any pretty pics/ views from runs, I’ll definitely share them here!

WHAT I’M READING: Nothing at the moment… any suggestions??!

AROUND THE HOUSE: I’m currently in the process of decorating my balcony. I don’t think I’ll go all out but I’d like to put some affordable patio furniture out there and maybe a few plants. I have a horrible view of a brick building that’s literally a couple of feet from me so I always thought it would be a waste to put furniture out there. But recently, I had a change of heart and decided that it would be nice to have an outdoor spot to just chill. What do you think? Waste of time or should I ignore the fact that my view sucks and make my patio my own?

MEDICINE: I’m more than 50% through my Internal Medicine rotation. I had a bit of a freakout moment the other day when I realized how much studying I have left to do and how little time I have. Thankfully, the hours at my new hospital are MUCH better than the hours at my old hospital. As a result, I have more time to review and study, which is better for me. I also figured out a way to study that is really working for me (my study methods before weren’t that effective). I’ll be sure to share more about it in a future post after I take my exam!

How was your week? Anything new exciting happen for you??
