*taps mic* Um, hello… is this thing on? Where has the time gone?! One day I’m writing a blog post and then almost a month flies by and I realized that I’ve left my favorite corner of the internet empty. I know you’re wondering what happened… honestly y’all, I don’t even know. If you’re a loyal Three Thousand Miles follower, you’d know that I started my surgery rotation and let me tell you. IT’S. BEEN. ROUGH. The work isn’t necessarily hard and what’s expected of me is actually pretty reasonable and fair. But since I started my head and neck rotation, I have been TIRED. I wake up most mornings by 4am and then I get home anywhere between 6:30-8pm. I am one of those people that needs 7 hours of sleep so after coming home, I make a quick dinner, attempt to study and instantly pass out at 9pm so I can get a decent night’s rest.
After my last head and neck shift ended last Friday I was so exhausted. I mustered up strength to go out with friends last weekend but other than that I spent my time relaxing. I have attempted to draft so many blog posts since you last heard from me, but I couldn’t bring myself to actually finish them. I know I’m tired when I pull away from my passion projects and the things that I love (aka this blog & other projects).
So where am I right now? I’m actually in NY with my family, enjoying the holiday. Today is Christmas Eve and tonight my dad is hosting an over the top Christmas Party (I’m talking rentals, catered food, waitresses, bartenders, etc). My introverted self is cringing at the thought of being around so many people but I know I’ll be glad to catch up with family and friends that I haven’t seen in a while.
Anyways, what else is new in my life? I finally got Christmas gifts yesterday and my trifling self actually waited too late for one of them so someone’s gift isn’t going to get here until after the new year… oops! Other than Christmas gift shopping I have crossed zero things off my winter break to do list. I’m kind of nervous about how much work I need to get done (yes I know it’s break, but I still have things to do) but I’m hoping I’ll find more motivation to do work after the holiday. I did get some AMAZING news that I plan on sharing here on the blog really soon. Until then, you’ll have to check back often to see when I post my big announcement!
How is your winter break going? Let me know what your plans are for the rest of the holiday season! I’ll be home, sleeping in and trying to muster the strength to be productive but we’ll see. I do plan on dedicating a bunch of time to take of things behind the scenes of the blog. I’ll be bringing back my newsletter in 2018, I am working on designing a “shoppable page” with links to my favorite and most useful items, and I am going to start prepping for 2018 blog content. You guys LOVE my medical school content and I promise to bring you a lot more. I still have to write about my neurology rotation along with my surgery electives (I had urology, anesthesia, and head and neck) so expect those posts SOON!
If you can’t tell, I’m so excited to be back! Have a happy holiday season and a Merry Christmas to those of you celebrating this weekend!
