LIFE LATELY: I started surgery 2 weeks ago and it has been pretty fun so far. Im like 99.99% sure I don’t want to be a surgeon but I’m trying to enjoy the rotation as much as I can. I just finished Urology on Friday and tomorrow, I will be starting a 2 week Anesthesia rotation followed by 2 weeks of Head and Neck surgery. After that I get 2 weeks of WINTER BREAK and I’m so excited to go home!
I am pretty bummed because I wasn’t able to make it to the Harvard Yale football game yesterday like I did last year. But I lived vicariously through my friends’ snapchats and Instagram updates of the game and tailgate.
AROUND THE BLOG: Here’s whats new: 1) How to Study For the Internal Medicine Shelf and 2) Medical School FAQs post. The first is a quick summary of my favorite study resources for internal medicine and the second is a HUGE round up of the most common questions I receive. In that post I answered the questions and linked to relevant blog posts so if you have any questions about medical school or medical school admissions, definitely check out that post first. I think it’s obvious that med school has taken over my life recently, however I’m going to make a conscious effort to ensure that I’m putting out a mix of medicine and lifestyle content here on the blog. I know most people enjoy my medical school updates but there’s a handful of you that are here to see only my lifestyle and decor posts and I don’t want to leave anyone out!
LA LIVING: Last night my friends and I went to my favorite BBQ spot in LA, Hambones. They give you SO MUCH food and it’s SO DELICIOUS. It’s definitely a hole in a wall and not glamorous at all. But the owners are so generous and the food is absolutely amazing! I literally have a week’s worth of leftovers so between this BBQ and Thanksgiving I will be eating good food for days!
FITNESS: I need to do better. I don’t even REMEMBER the last time I actually got a good workout in. The goal is to make time and go today. My friend was telling me I need to commit to not going home after work until I stop by the gym. We used to workout together but now that our schedules are all over the place, it’s pretty hard to link up which means I need to find my own motivation and discipline. Anesthesia is typically a lighter rotation so I’m hoping that I can use some of my extra time to establish a gym routine. My shooting for 1 hour, 4x per week. Let’s see if I can stick to it!
HOME DECOR: I am hardly home so I haven’t been decorating or doing anything around the house. One thing I have been doing is being more mindful about cleaning up after myself. I’m pretty neat but since I’ve been so busy I find myself being more lazy about dishes and household chores. I realized though that my life is 100000x easier when I don’t have to spend my days off cleaning for hours. Doing mini cleanups throughout the week has been so helpful in terms of saving time. Plus it’s nice to come home to a clean home after a long day in the hospital.
MEDICINE: I mentioned it above but I’m starting Anesthesia. I don’t think I want to be an anesthesiologist but I’m excited to start this rotation. I’ll let you know how it goes!
