LIFE LATELY: Happy New Year everyone! If you haven’t already, check out my New Years post and my 2017 recap. I know things have winded down on the blog but it’s because things have been super busy for me recently. Before the holidays I had 6 weeks of surgical electives and now I have 6 weeks of general surgery which means that I have very little free time. In addition to finishing my rotations I have so many new projects underway. The biggest project is that I’m starting a new business! If you know me personally, you would not be surprised by this news. I always knew I wanted to do launch my own business but I didn’t think I would be doing it right now while in medical school. I also thought I wanted it to be an anonymous venture so I wasn’t going to talk about it on the blog AT ALL but I realize that my desire for anonymity was fueled by fear of public failure. If I was anonymous and my business failed, at least I’d be able to fail in secret and not have anyone find out. But as I stated in my last post, I am walking into 2018 with a NEW mindset. I’m not letting my fears hold me back anymore. So if I fail, then so what? I’m excited to share more with you as I get closer to the launch, which is expected to be in late spring.

Another life update is that I am moving. I am really really sad because you guys know how much I LOVE my apartment. I knew I’d be leaving for a while, which is why you saw a decrease in my home decor/ DIY posts. I made the decision to move because I wanted to save some $$ and to be closer to my hospital rotations. I live in a pricey part of LA but I never enjoy it because I basically live in the hospital. It wasn’t making sense for me to pay so much in rent if I was never home. With that being said, I’m temporarily moving to be closer to the rest of my rotations. It was a tough decision to make but I’m excited for change and to have a new neighborhood to explore. Plus I’m going to be closer to some of my good friends which is always exciting.


AROUND THE BLOG: You can check out my most recent posts here and here. I have been working on my 2018 editorial calendar and I’m so excited to share my new content with you all. I surveyed my premed twitter followers regarding what questions they had regarding medicine and medical school admissions and I received a ton of responses and blog post ideas. I am going to be pushing out that content starting this week so expect to see more lifestyle content and medical school related content pretty soon.

Also I want to say a quick thank you to the THOUSANDS  of you who visit my site each month. When I first started blogging I was obsessed with analytics but after a while, I decided to limit how often I checked the blog stats because I was starting to focus on the wrong things. When you look at social media stats, I am NOT the most popular at all so I was surprised to see my blog numbers as high as they are. Yes some of my growth is from strategic and intentional planning but you guys don’t have to come back to the blog as much as you do. So thank you for continually checking my blog, sharing with your friends, and for engaging with me on my various platforms! I seriously couldn’t have reached this accomplishment without you!


LA LIVING: I have been spending most of my time in the hospital so I haven’t been exploring LA too much. I have a bucket list of things I want to do this semester during my days off. I’m hoping that having planned activities and outings will give me something to look forward to and will make me more productive throughout the week. Although I haven’t done much recently, I did try a new brunch spot in Santa Monica today. I took some pictures while I was there so I’ll try to get a quick review in sometime this week or next week


FITNESS: Tomorrow starts my new fitness routine! I know, I know, it’s so cliché to start a fitness routine at the beginning of the new year but I gotta start sometime, so why not now? I was trying to do home workouts, but I honestly miss the gym and lifting heavier weights so I’m switching to gym workouts again. Plus doing so forces me to go out and interact with people other than patients and hospital staff. I’ll save my home workouts for days that I absolutely can’t make it to the gym.


HOME DECOR: As I mentioned above, I am moving soon so I’ve slowed down on buying decor. I do need to pack and create new organization systems so I will likely be doing some posts on home organization soon!


MEDICINE: I am currently on my general surgery rotation. Honestly, the schedule is not as bad as I thought it would be and it is surprisingly better than my schedule was during my surgical electives. I usually wake up pretty early but I’ve been getting home in the early evening as well, which gives me ample time to study and workout. I have an exam in 5 weeks which I heard is pretty hard so I’m starting to buckle down with my studying.

Also I shared this on IG but for the month of January, the NBME is offering FREE practice USMLE step 1, step 2 CK, and step 3 exams at prometric centers (the place where the official test is administered) for the month of January. Take advantage of this offer and sign up for a practice this month!

    Happy New Year to you! Congrats on starting your own business, that’s awesome. I wish you every success with it. I prefer gym workouts to home workouts as well so I get you on that! xx

      Thanks so much for all the support! And yes, staying home is convenient but I feel like I get a better workout when I’m at the gym!
